In today's sophisticated AWD drivetrains, the transfer case oil pump is crucial for moving oil through the transfer case. Component failures, such as in the transfer case oil pump, clutches, and bearings, are common. A failing motor can cause accelerated wear and increased heat that degrades the transfer case fluid.
BMW/Mini Transfer Case Oil Pump Failure Symptoms:
Accelerated Component Wear: Failure of the pump will lead to deterioration of internal parts such as the clutches and bearings
Noises: Strange grinding, growling, or humming noises
Increased Heat: Excess heat generated by a failing motor or pump will cause the transfer case fluid to break down
Trouble Codes: A failing transfer case pump will produce trouble codes stored in the vehicle's computer
Loss of AWD: The vehicle will not longer be able to perform as intended
