Understanding Your V8 Vantage SportShift Clutch
Your V8 Vantage uses an automated manual transmission, which means it has a regular manual clutch, but the car operates it for you. Because of this, the clutch needs to “learn” and adjust itself every time the car is started when the engine is cold.
Why This Matters
If the clutch does not get time to self-calibrate, you may notice:

Jerky or rough shifts at low speeds

Slower response when selecting Drive or Reverse

Faster clutch wear over time
What You Need to Do
When you start the car cold, simply:

Start the engine
-
Wait about 8 seconds before selecting D, R, or using the paddles
That’s it.
This short pause allows the clutch to self-adjust for smooth shifting.
How to Tell When It’s Happening
On later Vantage S models, the “N” (Neutral) light will blink for a few seconds during this process.
When it stops blinking, the car is ready to drive.
If Shifting Feels Rough
Sometimes the system needs to be recalibrated. This does not always mean the clutch is worn or needs replacement. Our technicians will:
